"The Great Depression"

This year's photo is a composite of two actual photos from California migrant camps in the 1930s, both taken by WPA photographers.

I considered this background as well--a 1936 photo of the Dust Bowl in South Dakota--but the composition wasn't quite right. Helluva photo though, huh?

The truck was a more recent photo taken from the Internet and altered a bit.

The photo of me and Jennifer was shot by Samuel on the terrace of our apartment building on a sunny winter day. Jennifer provided her own clothes and hat. My overalls and cap came from eBay. Samuel and Ethan were shot separately--we only bought one pair of overalls from eBay for them to share.

My Photoshop skills have plateaued, I'm sorry to say, judging by my inability to get the shadows right on poor Samuel and Ethan. But I had fun doing it.

Here's to getting through the tough times together and appreciating the things that matter most.
